Ever get stuck wondering where to go with your life? Relax, it’s common! You could start with a personality test to psychoanalyze your mind and find the jobs that would make you happy, OR you could start figuring out your future by reflecting on your interests. What do you like to do? First, create a list of your interests and hobbies and expand on those that you could turn into a career. For example, if you wrote exercising you could correlate “personal trainer” as a career choice.
Now, pick the top careers that you have found from your list and do a little internet research. Search each career and find out the duties of the job, schooling that is necessary, and determine average salaries. Then spend a little bit of time on your social media. Yes, that’s right, use Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to find out who in your network has a career similar to the positions, or go out on a limb and connect with someone new who has the exact career! Once you have found these individuals, interview them and find out the path each person took to reach their career.
Do you think you’ve found a career choice? Write down another list now. This list should contain each step necessary to be qualified for your career choice. Continue to use the connections in your network for advice on how to complete each step, and stay in contact with them throughout your journey. It will only benefit you to have a network of people in your field of choice and this will start with just one connection. This list might be intimidating and may take a lot of time and effort to reach your goal, but it will be worth it in the end. After all, you will be making a living by doing something you are interested in and what could be better than that?
